Law Or Grace
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
The “law principle” works through a performance system
If you do the works then you get the blessing
If you don’t do the works then you get the curse
The Grace Principle says:
Here are all of the blessings
Now serve me out of a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving.
These two principles of law and grace are opposite
The law principle is what we call the “if then” principle
If you do this, then God will do that.
The law says if you perform this, you will get a blessing.
The law says “if you don’t do that then you get a curse.”
The Grace Principle says “here, and hands you the blessing.”
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
“but the gift of God” – That’s under grace.
“is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Eternal life is a gift.
“God gives us up front what a person under the law is working to get”.
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Grace is all that God is free to do for you through the cross.
Grace gives you a blessing freely.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
“This World”
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The phrase “this world” is a reference to the present evil world system which is:
Under the authority of “the god of this world” – 2 Corinthians 4:4
Under the influence of the philosophy of Satan – Colossians 2:8
Carried along by a value system that appeals to “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” – 1 John 2:16; Ephesians 2:2-3
The Work Of God
1 Thessalonians 4:7 God has called us
How were we called? 2 Thessalonians 2:14”Whereunto he called you by our gospel,”
What is the gospel? 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
“Called” – is one title of a believer that describes our status
Romans 1:6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
1 Thessalonians 4:8 God has given unto us his holy Spirit
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
1 Thessalonians 4:9 God teaches us
How does God teach us? Through His Word
1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Conclusion: I pray that this will be a rich blessing and help to you.
